InterVal

Berlin Research Center Internet and Value Chains (InterVal)
BMBF-Research Center "Internet Economy" with the funding priority on "Information and Coinage - Internet and Value Chains"
Berlin Research Consortium "InterVal - Internet and Value Chains" was chosen by the Federal ministry of Educaition and Research as one of the seven funding priorities to the topic "Internet Economy". From mid-2003 till the end of 2007 InterVal will be funded with 4 million Euro in total.
The goals of InterVal are analysis and development of Internet-Technologies in context of modern supply chains. New Technologies such as XML, Web Services and semantic networks have been changing the value-adding processes in the modern economy during the last years. This can be applied in manufacturing industry as well as for the creation of Software for the service sector. In InterVal these changes are analysed based on specific examples. Here, conciderations on the profitability of investments in Information and communication technologies ("IT-Investments") play an important role. Business approach to investment analysis and evaluation of management technics should be used just as macroeconomic calculations for measuring the impact of IT-investments on the overall productivity and labour market of the economy.
Another focus of research is the question of sequrity and data protection. Web-services cast on the fact that they will be put on safety problems across the whole organization.
Finally, qquestions of information logistics and knowledge management play an important role in InterVal. Comlex value chains are based on the assumption that information is available in the righrtt place in the right time. How can the economic incentives be designed, so that they motivate potential information providers to deliever information on time?
The research results of InterVal are continuously available on public communication platforms. Therefore InterVal Lernmanagement system will be implemented to enable knowledge transfer between universities, business practices and public administration.
